Catamounts Complete Class
It was less than a month ago when Simeon Marsalis arrived at Brewster Academy for his post-graduate year. But in that short period of time, the point guard managed to attract a long list of potential suitors.
On Monday the New York native ended what had quickly become a fierce recruiting battle, as he committed to the University of Vermont. He had also been receiving strong interest from a variety of other schools in the Ivy and Patriot Leagues as well as other schools in the America East.
Earlier in the weekend the Catamounts had picked up another commitment from 6’4” swingman Brendan Bald, a product of the Baltimore area. Marsalis and Bald join Ben Crenca and Luke Apfeld in what can only be described as a tremendous recruiting class for UVM.
With these four additions, the Catamounts have essentially covered every spot on the floor: Crenca is the prototypical low post scorer and rebounder; Apfeld the high flying face-up four man; Bald a skilled and athletic swingman; and finally Marsalis, the point guard who will be asked to help mold it all together and run the show.
The New York native should be plenty qualified for that role as he is a very tough, intelligent, and a highly competitive lead guard. With a great feel for the game and a college ready body, he should have no problem stepping right in and playing immediate minutes for the Catamounts next season.
