Campbell Picks Notre Dame

The July live period still has a week to go, but Middlesex Magic big man Dom Campbell was ready to bring his recruitment to an end.

The Phillips Exeter Academy product made a verbal commitment to Notre Dame head coach Mike Brey on a Wednesday night zoom, after officially visiting their campus in June.

Brey's program has a long history of recruiting the New England region, and some specific history with the Middlesex Magic (including Pat Connaughton) and the state of Maine where Campbell is originally from (including Thomas Knight).

In Campbell, they are landing a skilled inside-out big man who has the broad frame and physical style to do damage in the post but the shooting range and basketball acumen to stretch the floor and operate on the perimeter.

Campbell first started to make a name for himself a couple of years when he started to gain attention on the 2019 grassroots circuit. The following fall, when the Open Gym Series traveled to Maine, Campbell was still at Waynflete high school and stood out as the most talented player in attendance. His first division I offers came days later.

This spring, he came into the travel season without any high-major interest or offers but quickly changed that by standing out with the Middlesex Magic, ultimately earning numerous high-major suitors before taking his visits in June and now deciding on Notre Dame.

"Dom made an immediate lasting impact on the Magic program from the day he arrived," said Magic director Michael Crotty Jr. "He has excellent feet, hands and a feel for the game that isn't easily learned. His combination of strength and skill make him a very difficult player to defend. Dom is a great layer today, but I believe his ceiling is even higher because his work ethic is second to non. We have had a lot of great players in our program, but Dom is the best big man we had had and will go down as a Middlesex Magic great. We wish him nothing but the best of luck at Notre Dame!"
