Calnan Earns Accolade
Wakefield, Massachusetts resident Chris Calnan was recently named the Most Valuable Player of his 13U Mass Elite team. Calnan received the accolade at the club’s annual fall basketball banquet.
“Chris is one of the most super talented kids that I have seen play basketball at the thirteen age bracket,” said club director Eric Polli. “Throughout the season he led his team to four tournament championships and were finalists in two others, much because of Chris’ strong leadership and advanced skill set.”
While praising Calnan for the successful 2009 fall season, Polli also applauded his versatility.
“He can play point guard as well as he plays power forward, demonstrating the range to Chris’ overall game.”
Calnan averaged over 15 points and 8 assists per game while playing a variety of different positions on the 13u team coached by Jay Beers of Methuen.
Poli said he believes that the biggest strength to Calnan’s overall game is his work ethic.
“He was always asking for additional time on the court, working out after hours with members of our coaching staff and being very receptive to instruction and very active improving his already strong game.”
Calan also played up on the Mass Elite 14u team and was very competitive on that level as well, not missing a beat and continuing to demonstrate his skills and versatility.
During the winter months Chris will be playing for the Wakefield 7th grade town travel team which competes in the Middlesex Conference.
