Brewster Heading to Final

Five days ago it was a 30 point difference.  With a birth in the National Prep Championship at stake the game went down to the wire.

Second seeded Brewster Academy knocked off sixth seeded St. Thomas More, 74-69, to advance to the finals of the National Prep Championship on Wednesday afternoon, but it was a far tougher game than the last time the two teams met.

St. Thomas More utilized a 3-2 zone throughout the majority of the game which was able to not only slow the tempo but also frustrate the normally potent Brewster offense.

It was anyone’s game down the stretch until Naadir Tharpe made a huge play to push Brewster’s lead to seven at the two minute mark.  Tharpe turned the corner on a high ball screen and came down the lane only to find Andre Drummond, who had already blocked several shots.  Tharpe launched a running floater that rose just beyond Drummond’s reach and then swished straight through the net.

Will Barton continued to pace Brewster on the offensive end with a game high 24 points while Melvin Ejim and C.J. Fair scored 15 and 13 respectively.  STM was led by Tre Bowman’s 17 while Bryon Allen had 16 and Andre Drummond 14.

With the win, Brewster advances to tonight’s 7:30pm final where they will face another NEPSAC foe in Northfield Mount Hermon, who comes into the championship game riding a wave of momentum after knocking off both Notre Dame Prep and Hargrave Military Academy.
