Boyle Will Finish Career at Winchendon
Preye Boyle is heading to the NEPSAC. The 6’5” forward, who would have been one of the MIAA’s best players had he returned to Central for his senior year, will take his game to Winchendon and play for Head Coach Mike Byrnes.
“Coach Byrnes is one of the best coaches in the NEPSAC, and I think he can really help me,” said Boyle. “I love the discipline they teach you there and the academic structure of the school.”
Boyle is already a young man with a good head on his shoulders. He leaves Springfield Central in very good academic standing, having been an honor roll student with a grade point average of 3.1.
He has no plans of reclassifying upon arriving at Winchendon, although he says he will keep open the possibility of returning for a post-graduate year after he graduates next spring.
On the floor, Boyle has spent the majority of his high school career to this point playing on the interior. And while many people know the lefty is a good athlete with a sound skill set, he is anxious to prove his abilities on the perimeter.
“I’m hoping I can show people that I’m a wing player,” he said. “My shooting and dribbling are underrated, and they’re both improving too.”
At Winchendon, Boyle will also have the opportunity to play with a pass first point guard in Ozan Dilik, who is likely to make the game much easier for the talented forward.
Boyle got a brief taste of what playing with Dilik will be like as they teamed up on the New England Playaz AAU team this spring, before Dilik returned home to his native Turkey to play on the national team.
“I loved playing with him,” Boyle said. “He’s a great person to play with because he’s going to find you no matter what.”
While there are certainly many things that Boyle is looking forward to about heading to Winchendon, the decision to transfer was not one that he took lightly.
“I’ll miss playing at home in Springfield, playing for [Central Head] Coach [Mike] Labrie, and with my teammates,” he said. “But ultimately I think this is what is best for me.”
