Big Men Represent at Nike Hoop Summit
While some of New England’s best prep products are in Kentucky for the Derby Classic, three of the region’s most talented big men are in Portland, Oregon for the Nike Hoop Summit.
The Nike Hoop Summit has a tradition of featuring the world’s upcoming basketball talent. This annual basketball game is played under international rules and features the USA Basketball Men’s Junior National Select Team, comprised of the top high school boy senior players, playing against a World Select Team, comprised of top players 19-years-old or younger from around the world.
The 2012 Hoop Summit will be played Saturday April 7th, at 7:00pm in Portland, Oregon at the Rose Garden. The game will be televised nationally on Fox Sports Net and it’s regional affiliates; and will stream live globally on the internet.
The inaugural Nike Hoop Summit was played in Springfield, Massachusetts in 1995. Since then, the event has been played in Lake Buena Vista, Florida; Tampa, Florida; Indianapolis, Indiana; San Antonio, Texas; and Memphis, Tennessee. This is the 5th consectutive year the game has been played in Portland, Oregon.
The game’s alumni list includes the likes of Kevin Durant, Kevin Garnett, John Wall, Dirk Nowitski, Derrick Rose, Kevin Love, and more.
Nerlens Noel, Kaleb Tarczewski, and Mitch McGary were all selected for the 2012 USA Basketball Junior National Select Team. They are joined by Kyle Anderson (UCLA), Archie Goodwin (Kentucky), Gary Harris (Michigan State), Shabazz Muhammad (Undecided), Tony Parker (Undecided), James Robinson (Pittsburgh), and Rasheed Sulaimon (Duke). The team is being coached by Montverde Academy’s Kevin Boyle and DeMatha Catholic’s Mike Jones.
