Benzan is a Crusader

Roxbury Latin School point guard Patrick Benzan made a verbal commitment to the College of the Holy Cross on Tuesday night.

While Benzan is a rising senior at Roxbury Latin, he won’t join the Crusaders until the class of 2015, meaning he’ll do a post-graduate year following his graduation next spring.

Benzan has put up huge numbers during his three year career with RL, and etched his name into the record books on more than one occasion during his junior season.

He became the fastest player in school history to reach the 1,000 point plateau by reaching the milestone in just his third game of his junior season, which turned out to be a thrilling 60-56 overtime victory against Brimmer & May at the annual RL/Belmont Hill Holiday Tournament.

A month later, Benzan would pull down 22 rebounds in a game against Nobles, an incredible feat for any player, let alone a point guard.  Two weeks after that he put up a triple-double of 25 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds in a win over Rivers.

Benzan would finish as Roxbury Latin’s leader in both scoring and assists this season, averaging over 18 and 7 respectively, while also being named All-New England in Class B of the NEPSAC for the third consecutive year.

He enters his senior year as the second all-time leading scorer in Roxbury Latin history.
