Basabe Gets Release

Melsahn Basabe was granted a full release by Siena, meaning that he is free to be recruited and eventually sign with any school of his choosing.

Basabe plans to visit the University of Iowa very soon according to what St. Mark's head coach Dave Lubick told the Albany Times Union earlier today.

Former Siena head coach Fran McCaffery left the Saints to take over at Iowa late last month.

Basabe, a New York native, saw recruitment from the highest levels of college basketball before opting to sign with Siena in the fall, with his relationship with McCaffery being one of the critical factors.

Before signing his National Letter of Intent, Basabe secured an agreement with the school's athletic director that said he would be granted a full release should McCaffery leave to take another job.

In addition to Iowa, Basabe is also drawing interest from Indiana, Texas, and Boston College.
