Barr to Bentley in 2013
After a breakout AAU season with MB Nation, Matt Barr made a verbal commitment to Bentley on Monday afternoon.
The news was first reported by the MB Nation twitter account and quickly confirmed via Barr’s own twitter account.
“MBNation's Matt Barr has verbally accepted a full scholarship to D2 power Bentley. #congrats #soproud” MB Nation tweeted.
“Committed to Bentley University class of 17'. S/O to everyone who has helped me on this journey. So excited go falcons!” Barr tweeted.
Barr, who previously attended Exeter High School in New Hampshire, still intends to transfer into Cushing Academy for next season but will only spend one year in Ashburnham, and no longer reclassify to the class of 2014 as originally planned.
The six-foot-one guard was a virtual unknown coming into the AAU season but quickly made a name for himself as he and Dustin Cole proved to be a lethal backcourt combination for the Nation.
Despite already being listed in the class of 2014 throughout the summer, Bentley made a hard push to land the New Hampshire native in his original graduation class, and ultimately ended up getting their man.
In Barr, Bentley lands a tough, hard-nosed combo-guard who stood out with his ability to create off the dribble and knock down three-pointers in MB Nation’s dribble drive system but is even more valuable because of the grit and determination he brings to both ends of the floor.
Barr joins Andrew Shaw and Alex Furness to become the third player from the MB Nation program to commit to Bentley in the last three years. He is also the third Cushing Academy product to commit to Bentley in the last two years, joining Furness and Tyler McFarland.
