Barkley Chooses Northwestern
Putnam Science Academy & Wildcat Select forward Blake Barkley announced his commitment to Northwestern on Sunday.
Barkley, a West Virginia native, spent his first three years at University HS in Morgantown. He was a spark off the bench in 2019-20 for a Hawk squad that won 22 games. The next season Barkley took a nice step becoming a full time starter, earning OVAC First Team All-Conference honors.
After his junior season, he decided to transfer to Scotland Campus and enter the class of 2023. Barkley made a smooth transition against a higher level of competition, playing a key role for a Scotland team that made the GAC Tournament Finals. He scored 19 points during his team’s GAC Tournament semifinal win.
Barkley competed on the Adidas 3SSB circuit with Wildcat Select this past spring/summer. He was a standout, averaging 13.5 points and 8.2 rebounds per game.
An opportunity now awaits him competing against New England’s top competition in the NEBL while at Putnam Science Academy.
“We can’t wait for the season to start and Blake is going to play a huge role in the success we have,” said PSA head coach Tom Espinosa. “He is very versatile, can really shoot the ball, but will be one of our top rebounders.”
“He’s a very smart young man who works hard and wants to be coached and pushed. I’m so happy for Blake and his family and his commitment to Northwestern. Feel it was a great fit and I think he will have a great career there.”
Barkley is a part of the four members of PSA’s 2023 class who have finalized their college plans.
