BABC Prep Classic – Saturday Recap

The 8th annual BABC Prep Classic got underway Saturday at the Shelbourne Community Center in Roxbury, here’s a rundown of the action:

Northfield Mount Hermon 69  Brimmer & May 48

Josh Sharma opened the game on a tear, scoring his team’s first ten points with a pair of strong finishes as well as two threes, demonstrating an enhanced offensive game.  With NMH’s defense keyed on stopping Brimmer star Sammy Mojica, the Drexel bound guard finished with just 8 points while Quinn Juliano scored a team high 11.  Sharma went on to finish with 18 and 6 for NMH as they cruised to the victory in the second half.  Daquon Ervin and Aaron Falzon both had 11 as well.

New Hampton 54  Worcester Academy 49

A physical game between New Hampton and Worcester saw the Huskies grind out a 54-49 win over their former NEPSAC rival.  Aubrey Dawkins had a strong showing for New Hampton, finishing with 13 points and 9 rebounds, while also anchoring the team’s defensive effort on the perimeter.  Tyler Lydon continued to be an inside-out force offensively while pulling in 11 rebounds.  Worcester Academy unsigned senior Matt Cimino continued his strong senior season with a game high 19 points.

Tilton 68  Master’s 54

Terance Mann turned in a complete performance to lead the Rams to victory.  The ESPN 60 product had 20 points, 17 of which came in the first half, while also doing a nice job of distributing the ball and controlling the flow of the game.  The point guard duo of Johnny Joseph and Gonzalo Santana both made solid offensive contributions for Tilton while local product Celio Araujo shined for Master’s in his return to his home city.  Araujo finished with a team high 13 points while also playing strong with the ball and serving as Master’s best decision maker.

Beaver Country Day 57  Suffield Academy 39

BCD outlasted a developing rival from Connecticut in a match-up of two of Class B’s top programs.  Playing without sophomore point guard Ellis Christmas, Suffield relied on high-major football prospect Christian Wilkins, who responded with 16 points inside the paint.  Keyshaun Jacobs set the tone for a balanced BCD offense, finishing with a team high 11 while also keeping the team organized within their half-court sets.  The senior inside-out tandem of Jacquil Taylor and Jeff Spellman finished with 8 points each.

Boston Trinity 59  Commonwealth Academy 54

Junior guard Nisre Zouzoua continued his breakout junior season by scoring a game high 19 points and taking over down the stretch.  Zouzoua was consistently able to make plays off the dribble, getting into the paint and earning trips to the free-throw line.  Opposing point guard Jordan Vidal scored 17 for Commonwealth, who played without both Jordan Hardwick and Quandarious Roberson.

Notre Dame Prep 61  Redemption Christion 45

After Jarvis Garrett went down with a sprained ankle midway through the first half, Notre Dame Prep needed someone to step up.  C.J. Vaughn proved to be that player as he drilled shots from long range en route to a game high 20 point performance.  Tyrell Wright led Redeption with 13 points.
