BABC Earns Peach Jam Invite
The BABC made the trip to Oakland, California knowing their backs were against the wall. They needed to close out the EYBL regular season with a successful weekend at session IV if they hoped to return to July’s Nike Peach Jam to defend last year’s EYBL title.
Complicating matters even more were the fact that the team was short-handed, playing without starters Jaylen Brantley and Wayne Selden. But true to form, BABC came together and rose to the occasion, going 4-2 on the weekend to finish the EYBL regular season with an overall record of 11-9 and earn an automatic qualifying bid to this year’s Peach Jam tournament.
They opened things up on Friday night with a 62-54 win over the St. Louis Eagles. Rene Castro led the way with 23 points and 5 rebounds while Andrew Chrabascz returned from his concussion to finish with 13 points and 7 rebounds. Kamari Robinson also stepped up after being inserted into the starting line-up to score 11 points.
BABC returned to the court Saturday morning to take a second hard fought win, this time over Wisconsin Playground 51-47. Castro and Chrabascz again led the way with 16 and 11 points respectively while Tyrese Hoxter and Castro each handed out five assists, leading BABC to finish the game with 16 dimes against just 4 turnovers.
Saturday afternoon saw BABC’s trademark defensive clinic as they held the Georgia Stars to just 32 points and 21.6% shooting from the field. BABC scored 52 points of their own led by 31 from Castro of 12-18 shooting from the floor.
BABC split decisions on Sunday, suffering a close 59-56 loss to Team United in the morning before bouncing back to knock off Louisiana Select 56-42 in the afternoon. Castro went for 23 in the morning while Hoxter chipped in with 10 points and 7 assists before Chrabascz led the way with 18 points (on 9-10 shooting from the floor) and 10 rebounds in the nightcap.
With their fate sealed and their ticket to the Peach Jam already punched, BABC fell to the Arkansas Wings on Monday morning, but Castro still seized the opportunity to drop a weekend high 32 points on 14-23 shooting from the floor.
The 2012 EYBL finals will be held at the Peach Jam on July 12th – 15th.
