Another off the Board
The amount of available talent in the class of 2013 seems to decrease by the day. The latest pledge comes from St. Thomas More School where post-graduate forward Marquis Salmon has committed to Utah Valley.
Salmon is a six-foot-seven California native who graduated from Sun Valley Village Christian before coming east for his additional season.
Salmon is a long and athletic four-man with a good motor and excellent nose for the ball coming off the glass. While he’s capable of scoring around the rim and making mid-range jumpers alike, he’s also the unique type of player who doesn’t need to score points to impact the game because of his ability to defend and rebound.
He becomes the seventh member of this year’s St. Thomas More team to earn a full scholarship for next season, as he joins Duane Notice (South Carolina), Gabe Levin (Loyola Marymount), Dylan Haines (Boston University), Marquis Moore (George Mason), Denzel Gregg (St. Bonaventure), and Chris Walters (Southern New Hampshire).
Utah Valley has made major strides in their college athletics program in recent years. In 2009 they made an unprecedented move, when they transitioned from a junior college to an NCAA Division I school. Since that time they’ve competed in the Great West Conference, but next year they’ll be moving to the WAC along with Cal State Bakersfield.
