Andrews Angles Prep Year into VMI Opportunity
Northfield Mount Hermon guard Walker Andrews recently announced his commitment to VMI, a D1 school in the Southern Conference.
Andrews, a native of Virginia, had a terrific career at Virginia Episcopal School before coming to New England. During his senior year, he averaged 21.8 points and shot 40% from three, 80% from the line, as well as an overall field goal percentage of 56%.
Andrews made an impressive 127 three–point shots during that season to go with now being VES’ all-time leading scorer. His standout play in the 2021-22 season also earned him First-Team All-State honors.
A decision was made shortly after his final season at VES to move into the 2023 class and attend NMH for a post-grad year. Andrews made his presence felt on several different occasions this past season.
He had standout performances at both the Scholar Roundball Classic and St. Andrew’s Holiday Classic. Andrews earned an All-Tournament Selection at St. Andrew’s event.
“I could not be more excited for Walker and his family,” said NMH head coach Mike Shelton. “He has elite character and work ethic. Given the landscape of college basketball now, I am happy he realized his dream to play D1.”
“Walker came to us as a 2k point scorer so he has a natural ability to put the ball in the basket. I think what he learned this year was a lot of the intangibles, how to compete day in and day out, how to create space against elite defenders, and overall just how hard it is to play at this level throughout 34 games.”
“I think those intangibles are what will serve him well as soon as he steps foot on VMI’s campus!”
Andrews becomes the second member of NMH’s 2023 class who has finalized their plans to play Division One college basketball next season.
