Alves Accepts Scholarship
Bridgewater-Raynham alum, South Kent School post-graduate and Boston Bobcats guard Doug Alves has accepted a scholarship offer from Point Park University in Pittsburgh.
"I appreciate the coaches that took the time to recruit me. I'm proud to accept a scholarship to Point Park U," Alves told NERR's Zack Sandberg. "The school, the location and the coaching staff plus the opportunity to earn playing time right away all make Point Park U a good fit."
Alves had a storied high school career at Bridgewater-Raynham where he starred under his father, averaging 18.7 points, 7 assists, 4 rebounds, and 3 steals per game as a senior while becoming the first player in the program to score over 1,000 points in over a decade. He was also a three-time Old Colony League All-Star and three-time Taunton Daily Gazette All-Scholastic selection.
He came to South Kent to prove himself against a higher level of competition and open doors to additional exposure opportunities and ended up accomplishing both after earning honorable mention All-NEPSAC honors and helping to lead South Kent back to the post-season.
On the grassroots circuit, Alves has been a staple for a Boston Bobcats program that has ascended rapidly up the local high school ranks in recent years.
The skilled southpaw guard is talented with the ball in his hands, both as a ball-handler and long-range shooter, but equally capable of changing the game on the defensive end with his ability to defend the length of the floor.
Alves is the third member of this year's South Kent team to accept a full athletic scholarship offer.
