Doherty is a truly elite frontcourt passer with a tremendous basketball I.Q. and some of the best hands in New England. His ability to facilitate from various spots on the floor makes him a major mismatch problem and the type of big man a coach can play through in the half-court.
In fact, during the recent EYBL season he not only led BABC in total rebounds but also in assists and steals at 3.6 and 1.8 per game respectively.
Worcester Academy head coach Jamie Sullivan also credited Doherty's leadership and ability to raise the level of those around him.
"While many highlight Mitch's skill level, passing ability, and high I.Q., he has played a major part in raising the collective IQ and basketball understanding of everyone else in our program," he said.
Doherty becomes the fourth member of BABC's 2019 class to accept a full athletic scholarship at the division I level.
He also becomes the centerpiece of Albany's 2019 class just a year after they landed a dynamic incoming duo in South Kent forward Malachi de Sousa and explosive guard Antonio Rizzuto.
