Akintolu Headed to NJIT
Avon Old Farms School & Rens United forward Jeffrey Akintolu recently announced his commitment to NJIT.
Akintolu, a native of England, attended Kiski School in Pennsylvania before coming to New England. He earned a starting role for the Cougars during their COVID shortened 2021-22 season.
His only year in the NEPSAC was a successful one. Akintolu helped lead the Winged Beavers to 16 wins and a Class A Semifinal berth. He also averaged 13 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. His standout play earned him ALL-NEPSAC and Second Team Founders League honors.
On the AAU circuit, Akintolu competed for the independent program Rens United.
“I am really happy for Jeffrey Akintolu,” said AOF head coach Matt Mihalich. “Jeff brought so much to AOF on the court and in the classroom. To play in the America East, a league that raises competition and is committed to academic achievements, fits him very well.”
“He has an incredible maturity that made him a natural leader and his work ethic was a model for young men to follow. Jeff has a competitive demeanor, but was positive and enthusiastic. He led us in made three-pointers and charges taken.”
“Jeff chose a terrific mentor in Grant Billmeier. Coach develops skilled forwards like him. He more importantly, has an outstanding track record for surrounding himself with great people and guiding young men towards success.”
Akintolu became the third Division One commitment for AOF’s 2023 class and the fifth total who will be competing next year in college.
