2025 Prep Profile: Brimmer & May
It's not easy being a day school in AA, but don't tell Coach Tom Nelson that—he's heard it all after coaching tiny Brimmer & May, a K-12 school with fewer than 400 students total, for the past decade. If you know anything about Coach Nelson, he will never make excuses for his kids; instead, he will demand the most of them. Nothing comes easy in AA, and with a pair of skilled guards and an emerging big man, Brimmer just might be the recipe for success this year.
The Returners:
One of the most dynamic backcourts in AA this year will be senior Ladanion Payne and junior Winston Legentus. Payne spent the offseason playing for the Rivals 16u team, working on his ballhandling at the point guard spot, while Legentus is a four-year starter who essentially serves as another coach on the court for Nelson.
6’8 Forward Tyson Robinson is back after missing part of last season with an injury. The wiry big will be asked to play much bigger than his size and often guard the biggest player on the floor.
Cam Thornton, Brady Palladino, and Lincoln Fudge should all see a boost in minutes this year.
Senior guard Gabe Cohen is the heart and soul of the team and will provide more depth at the guard position, while sophomore BJ Dawan-Abdullah is back for his third year on varsity and should be poised to take on a much bigger role this year.
The Newcomers:
Rick Costa is a 6’4 forward who will be a one-year senior who will be counted on right away to help in the front court. A pair of underclassmen in Hunter Wood and Ryland August join the program this year and should be pieces of the future for Brimmer.
6’9 junior C Logan Lang is worth monitoring as he aims to be the next great big man to come through the doors in Chestnut Hill. Also in the junior class is 6’3 shooter John Fitzgibbon, who can score in bunches and wows with his dynamic playmaking ability.
Bottom Line:
This is a talented team with depth at every position, and they have a “big 3” to rally around. While they don't have the luxury of bringing in post-grads like most of their peers, they have the benefit of most of these guys having years of experience playing together. In what seems to be a wide-open AA this year, be on the lookout for Brimmer and May.
