Week 1 Recruiting Updates
With the second week of the July live period set to tip-off Wednesday and 5pm and go through Sunday afternoon it's time to take inventory of some of the recruiting updates to come out of the first period.
Again, scholarship offers are not all created equal, and can mean very different things to different people, but are nonetheless worth acknowledging. Here's a rundown of the week 1 offers:
- Albany City Rocks 2020 guard Symir Torrence landed offers from Vanderbilt and Virginia after helping his team to the quarterfinals of the Peach Jam where they fell to the eventual winners, Team Takeover. Fellow City Rocks' guard Mika Adams-Woods picked up an offer from UNCG;
- New Heights won the Under Armour Challenge in Atlanta and Idan Tretout came away with an offer from South Florida of the American Athletic Conference as well as St. Bonaventure in the A10;
- WrightWay Skills took part in the UA Challenge as well with their big man duo of Charles Colemand and Justin Vander Baan adding offers from Nevada and Stetson respectively;
- Also in Atlanta, Bryant offered a trio of NE6's 2020 prospects in Matt Knowling, Corey McKeithan, and Kai Kostmayer. Central Connecticut also offered a pair of NE6 prospects from their u17 team including Connor Raines and 2020 Cairo McCrory;
- We-R1 guard, Byron Breland, who was a major stock-riser in the spring added another offer this week as well, this one from Florida International;
- At the Adidas Gauntlet Finale, the Mass Rivals went toe-to-toe with the eventual champions, Compton Magic, in a high level game on Friday. Tyler Burton walked away with an offer from St. Bonaventure while Akok Akok added an offer from Maryland and Wilden Leveque an offer from Depaul before the weekend was out;
- Also in New York, Team New England guard Bensley Joseph added his first high-major offer from Rutgers;
- Back at the Peach Jam, Expressions' had a solid week with a pair of Atlantic 10 schools, UMass and Fordham, offering Noah Fernandes while Siena offered both Preston Santos as well as 2020 Bas Leyte. Trey Hall, on the Expressions u16 team, also added an offer from George Washington;
- Also at the Peach Jam, PSA Cardinals big man Maxwell Lorca-Lloyd added a big offer from Ohio State while New York Rens guard Dan Klosk added an offer from Bryant;
- Tommy ONeil added an offer from Columbia while leading the Middlesex Magic to a Hoop Group HGSL championship while D.C. Blue Devils' Gob Gabriel added Wagner, FDU, and Towson.
- L&L Running Rebels forward Marial Mading is an ascending prospect. He attended Hoop Group Elite Camp and Elevate Summer Ice Breaker II last week while pulling an offer from Rhode Island.
