Williston’s Ubochi is Ivy Bound

Williston Northampton big man Christian Ubochi announched his commitment earlier this week to Penn.

Ubochi, a native of Nigeria, came to the United States in 2017. Before coming to Williston for a post-grad year, he played in the San Diego area at Victory Christian Academy and Mater Dei Catholic High School.

Ubochi had a productive final season at Mater Dei, helping his team win 18 games while averaging 10.2 points, 7.6 rebounds, and and 1.9 blocks per game. In his only year in New England, he made a solid impact and earned NEPSAC Class A Honorable Mention honors.

“Christian improved immensely from the beginning of the year until now,” said Williston Northampton head coach Ben Farmer. “He has all the physical tools to be successful in the Ivy League.”

“The intangible that I think surprised me the most is his competitive spirit which will serve him well at the next level. Christian values his education and wants to take basketball as far as he can. It’s a great fit all around.”

Ubochi becomes the third member of Williston’s 2022 class to finalize their college plans, while being the second to commit to a Division One program.
