Hinkle Earns Scholarship from Vanderbilt

We’ve been saying it all year long.  Charles Hinkle is very good.  Apparently Vanderbilt Head Coach Kevin Stallings agreed with us.

“It’s very rare to get a player the caliber of Charles at this time of year,” Stallings said according to VU’s media relations department.  “He’s a good wing prospect, a good shooter with a strong feel for the game. We’re excited to add him to the roster.  Hopefully, he has a chance to be a good player.”

We first told you about Hinkle in early January when we called him the best player in New England that most people had never heard of.  And despite being evaluated by a host of college coaches throughout the second half of the year the scholarship offers were still hard to come by.

You would think that college coaches would be lining up by the dozens for a 6’5 left handed swing man with an unselfish approach to the game, a great mid-range game, consistent three-point range, and a high basketball I.Q.  But as is all too often the case coaches can be hesitant to be the first school to pull the trigger.  Instead Hinkle, like many other recruits, heard the question, “Who else has offered?”  And now that he is headed to the SEC you have to believe that the coaches who passed up on his services in the last couple of months are kicking themselves.

Hinkle becomes the second New England product to join Vanderbilt’s recruiting class joining Andre Walker from Brewster Academy (and the third member if you consider recruited walk-on Joe Duffy from Exeter Academy).
