Elite 75 College Showcase Recap pt. 5
Following the Elite 75 this past week at Clark, we will be taking a look at each of the showcase teams and highlighting what they do well. Here's a look at one of the squads.
Jeffrey Herbin (Watertown HS, MA) is a very quick guard who gets out in transition and can hit pull-ups efficiently from mid-range. He is an extremely aggressive on-ball defender as well. He uses a soft floater to finish over bigger defenders in the lane. He hits step-backs at a high percentage from deep, using his shifty handle to create space for pull-up jumpers. He is also able to finish acrobatically at the rim.
Max Miller (Worcester Academy, MA) is a high-IQ point guard with a quick first step and great handling skills. He uses these attributes to lead his team consistently while finding open guys. Very strong out of the pick and roll making him a college ready guard.
Andy Weeman (Westwood HS, MA) is a strong wing with a solid jumpshot and physical presence. He is strong with the ball, allowing him to initiate offense around the mid-post. He leads defensively with a powerful stance and vocal leadership.
Ajay Lopes (Wareham HS, MA) is a shifty guard who finishes exceptionally with both hands at the rim. He uses a quick cross jab to expose openings in the defense and to get where he wants. Can score all over the floor and opens it up for others by drawing in defenders. High motor, efficient guard that does what it takes to pull out wins.
Luke Lisciandra (Medfield HS, MA) is a lengthy wing who uses his long arms to deflect passes and finish in traffic. He is versalite, switching exceptionally well across all positions. Does a good job of getting looks at shots at the spots he wants and creates opportunities for others with his playmaking prowess. Shoots it from all over the floor. Rises up and can knock down contested shots, as well as create separation for shot attempts using a bag of moves.
Dimitri Sime (Lowell Catholic, MA) plays hard and fights for second chance opportunities. He executes his roles effectively, especially as a slasher and as a perimeter defender. Moves his feet and is active on the defensive end forcing turnovers and giving opposing guards trouble. Can finish powerfully above the rim, but thrives driving through traffic and scoring around the bucket.
Shane Pike (Thayer, MA) is a knockdown shooter with solid range and consistent form. His quick release allows him to get shots off over defenders. He attacks close-outs well, allowing him to have options in the paint. Scorer at all three levels.
Judson Philogene (Brockton HS, MA) is an athletic forward. Looks to get his teammates involved, often by slashing the paint and getting to the bucket or kicking it out to the perimeter. Finishes at the rim through contact and can knock down shots from the mid-range. Strong rebounder who pushes the ball in transition and locks in on his defensive assignment.
Gargey Suryadevara (Worcester Academy, MA) is a long forward/center who blocks shots on the defensive end. He also has a package of post moves to finish in the paint. Uses his body efficiently and positions himself well for dump-off passes in the paint.
Christiano Vieira (Brockton HS, MA) hustles harder than anybody on the floor and uses effective bursts of speed. He moves well without the ball, forcing the defense to guard him at all times. He is an absolute hound on the defensive end, forcing turnovers and crowds passing lanes.
