Porter Picks St. Mary’s
Franklin Porter has won quite a few basketball games in his two years in New England.
Last summer he was part of a BABC team that qualified for the EYBL finals at the Peach Jam and this winter he was one of the offensive focal points for a Tilton squad that captured their latest NEPSAC championship and returned to the National Prep Championship.
Now he's set to join another top program as he both committed to, and signed with, St. Mary's on Wednesday.
A perennial powerhouse on in the West Coast Conference under Randy Bennett, the Gaels won 20 or more games for the 8th consecutive season this year while also making their 8th straight appearance in either the NCAA or NIT tournaments.
Porter joins Terance Mann (Florida State) and Anthony Green (Northeastern) to become the third member of Tilton's 2015 class to accept a division I scholarship. He is also the 7th member of BABC's 2015 class to accept a full athletic scholarship as he joins Mann and Jeremy Miller (Northeastern) in the D1 ranks while Christian Wilkins (Clemson) and Brendan Hill (New Hampshire) are heading to the gridiron. Tyree Robinson (Odessa JC) and Aamahne Santos (Cloud County CC) both received full scholarship in the junior college ranks while program alums Jaylen Brantley (Maryland), Mike Rodriguez (Southern Ill.) and Darien Fernandes (Jacksonville) have all committed to division I programs out of various junior colleges this season.
Celio Araujo, an experienced point guard and true floor general with high academics, is the last remaining product in the program's 2015 class.
