The first weekend of the live period inevitably brings a rush of new scholarship offers and recruiting interest. Here's a rundown of the headlines: VCU and Seton Hall both offered the Putnam Science & NY Jayhawks tandem of Hamidou Diallo and Mamadou Diarra on Friday. Nike's Elite Youth Basketball League got underway this weekend in Hampton, Virginia with BABC and Expressions being among the 40 programs in the field. BABC went 2-2 on the weekend, winning their final two games of the weekend including a 62-61 game against King James and then a dominant showing on Sunday morning against Northwest Express. The first day of pool play in the Adidas Gauntlet started Friday night in Dallas for the New England Playaz and Mass Rivals. Coaches from all over the Country came to the Duncanville Fieldhouse to watch. New England may not have an Under Armour sponsored team but the biggest news on day one of the evaluation period came on the UAA circuit as the Putnam Science tandem of Hamidou Diallo and Mamadour Diarra both scored multiple scholarship offers. Less than five days after the college basketball season came to an end, the evaluation begins on Friday night, meaning college coaches will be permitted to be out watching grassroots style events that have been certified by the NCAA. A trio of MIAA products announced their decisions on Thursday as Mansfield swingman Ryan Boulter, Durfee forward Tyree Robinson and former Catholic Memorial guard Aamahne Santos all finalized their plans. One of the top players in the MIAA this season will spend a year in the prep ranks before making his college decision. Tommy Mobley, who had terrific career at Newton North punctuated by a huge senior season, will do a post-graduate year at Phillips Exeter Academy in New Hampshire.
