The 2013-2014 Vermont Academy team may be under new leadership this year, but don’t expect their rise in the New England ranks to stop. After former coach Jesse Bopp left for Virginia Commonwealth University, Cody Hatt was chosen to take over the basketball program after previously serving as an assistant.    Hatt’s first team may be young and inexperienced but they’re highly talented and full of motivation.  In fact, if their open gym is any indication, they will be one of the… READ MORE >

Truth about Positions

Truth about Positions

Today’s day and age of college basketball recruiting has often been called the “age of entitlement” referring to the plethora of prospects who feel as if they deserve the quantities of travel, gear, and other permissible benefits they receive simply because of their natural ability.  That same attitude can also extend to the court, manifesting itself with regard to a player’s expectations about their starts, minutes, touches, and shots.  Perhaps the single greatest misconception most top prospects have about the… READ MORE >

Prep Profile – Tilton School

For the first time in a long time, no one seems to be talking about the Tilton School heading into this year’s Class AA season. That could prove to be a major miscalculation. Having won NEPSAC championships in 2011, 2010, 2009, 2008, and 2004, along with the 2009 National Prep Championship, head coach Marcus O’Neil has built a program with as much recent history as anyone in New England while producing stars like Alex Oriakhi, Jamal Coombs-McDaniel, Gerard Coleman, Nerlens… READ MORE >

Cushing Academy is the defending champion, St. Andrew’s is looking to get over the hump after advancing to last year’s final, and yet KUA has as good a chance of winning this year’s NEPSAC AA crown as anyone in New England.  If you were going to come up with a theme for the 2013-2014 version of the Wildcats it could very accurately be described as, “improvement from within.”The fact of the matter is that while head coach Mike Olson will… READ MORE >

St. Thomas More post-graduate guard Francis Kiapway made a verbal commitment to Ball State on Thursday night, following an official visit to the school earlier in the week.  Kiapway chose Ball State over Detroit, Duquesne, and Western Kentucky. The six-foot-two guard is a versatile offensive player, potentially capable of putting points on the board in all three ranges, but perhaps at his best from behind the three-point line. That made him a top priority for first year Ball State head… READ MORE >

One more possession…one more stop…one more bucket… or one less second…and St. Andrew’s would have been the 2013 NEPSAC Class AA champions.  When Jalen Adams banked in a 40 footer it didn’t just give Cushing Academy a championship, it took one away from St. Andrew’s School.  When the 2013-2014 school year started and the Saints returned to campus in Barrington, they did so with just one thing on their mind. “The focus is on getting that Class AA championship,” Bonzie… READ MORE >

The reigning NEPSAC AA champions are looking to repeat this season and with a backcourt trio like Kaleb Joseph, Jalen Adams, and Idris Taqqee, they’ll certainly have a good opportunity to do just that.  The last time the Penguins took the court, they won one of the most dramatic championship games in the history of the NEPSAC, when Adams banked in a 40 footer to beat the buzzer and give Cushing the title. While that moment has been forever etched… READ MORE >
