Worcester Post-Grad Makes Decision; Signs Letter

Corvonn Gaines is bound for East Carolina University next year.

The post-graduate swing man made his decision over the weekend and signed his letter of intent on Monday.

“Corvonn is another long multi-position athlete who can play anywhere on the perimeter,” said ECU head coach Mack McCarthy.  “He has been around basketball his entire life, and has a great understanding of the game.  Corvonn comes from an outstanding basketball family and is a very good student.”

Prior to arriving in New England, Gaines starred at Madison West High School in Wisconsin where he averaged almost 17 points and 7 assists per game while earning all-conference recognition and being named to the Wisconsin Basketball Coaches All-Star Game.

Gaines, who is the younger brother of former Louisville star and NBA first round draft pick Reece Gaines, did a little bit of everything for Worcester this year as he averaged 12 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals for per game.

Upon his arrival at Worcester Academy he was able to increase his stock in the eyes of college coaches by improving his body and showing his versatility on both ends of the floor.

Offensively, he can be a bit of a point forward at times as his court vision and playmaking abilities allows him to facilitate offense for those around him.  Defensively, he was equally valuable as his lateral quickness and physicality both proved to be major assets during the course of the season.
