Weekend Camp Catch-Up

The month of June is always a big time for various elite camps.  Whether the camp belongs to a college, shoe company, or independent exposure group there will be a variety of invitation only camps held throughout the month with some obviously being more “elite” than others.  Here’s a rundown of what was going on this weekend:

•  Naadir Tharpe is in Long Beach, California for the Pangos All-American Camp.  Tharpe joined a loaded roster featuring the likes of Austin Rivers, Tony Wroten, Marcus Teague, Quincy Miller, LeBryan Nash, LaQuinton Ross, and others.  Tharpe earned recognition from Rivals and Scout.com’s Evan Daniels on the first day of the camp after reportedly knocking down four first half three-pointers while also creating for his teammates.  All of this comes on the wake of his recent de-commitment from Providence and then subsequent scholarship offers from Marquette, Rutgers, Seton Hall, and UNLV. 

•  Khem Birch, Ricardo Ledo, Jules Tavares, and Kevin Thomas all made the trip to Atlanta, Georgia for the first ever “Best of the Best Skills Academy” presented by Under Armor.  The camp features 70 top prospects from around the country including the likes of J.P. Tokoto and Thomas Hamilton. 

•  West Virginia was one of two Big East schools to hold their elite camp this weekend, hosting 40 players in Morgantown.  Incoming South Kent big man Kadeem Jack and John Papale are representing New England. 

•  St. John’s is the second Big East School to hold an elite camp this weekend as newly appointed head coach Steve Lavin tries to get an early jump on the July evaluation period.  Timajh Parker-Rivera was one of the 30 players in attendance this weekend. 

•  Kaleb Tarczewski traveled to the University of Kansas this weekend and drew reviews fromt he local Rivals' affiliate, JayhawkSlant.com.  The St. Mark's big man reportedly liked what he saw at the camp, specifically all of the individual attention he received from current Kansas assistant and former NBA player Danny Manning and

•  Yale University hosted roughly 100 players at their Elite Camp.  Over 20 states are represented in New Haven this week as the Bulldog’s have hopeful prospects making the trip from all over the country.  New England was represented by the likes of Andrej Pajovic, Lucas Hausman, Laurent Firlotte, Pat Hopkins, K.C. Hoff, Zach Restifo, Casey Woodring, Dennis Levene, Phil Gaetano, and Brandon Sherrod on Saturday.
