Weekend Camp Catch-Up

While the vast majority of the grassroots basketball world has their eyes set on the Bronx in the northeast corner of the country this weekend, there are still a number of New England’s top prospects who are making trips to prestigious camps throughout the country.  Here is a rundown of who is going where:

•  New England is well represented at this weekend’s Nike Hoop Jamboree.  The event is held in St. Louis, Missouri on the campus of St. Louis University and features the top underclassmen in the country as invited by Nike.  The Jamboree is a four day event which began on Friday and will conclude on Monday.  In attendance from New England are future South Kent swingman Ricardo Ledo, Hotchkiss’ guard Clyde Smith, Northwest Catholic swingman Kuran Iverson, and incoming Lawrence Academy freshman Johnnie Vassar.

•  After previous stops in Orlando and Las Vegas, Adidas Nations is holding their third training camp of the spring this weekend in Portland, Oregon.  Alex Murphy continues to be the sole New England representative at the event as he joins some the likes of Shabazz Muhammad, Jordan Price, Nigel Williams-Goss in forming the 20 man roster.

•  Khem Birch traveled back to Canada this weekend to begin training with the eighteen-and-under national team that will compete in the 2010 FIBA Americas U18 Championship from June 26-30 in San Antonio, Texas.  Birch will remain with the national training camp leading up to the games except for a brief absence next week to attend the NBA Camp.

•  Naadir Tharpe and Michael Carter-Williams are in North Carolina this weekend at the CP3 Elite Guard Camp – an invitation only camp for top high school and collegiate point guards from North Carolina and around the country.  Participating college guards include Corey Fisher (Villanova), Scoop Jardine and Brandon Triche (Syracuse), Chris Wright (Georgetown), Darius Johnson-Odom (Marquette), Kemba Walker (UConn), and Nolan Smith, Seth Curry, and Kyle Singler (Duke).

•  Steve Wynn, who will be reclassifying at Lawrence Academy next year, will be traveling to North Carolina as well this weekend as he accepted an invitation to participate at the North Carolina State Elite Camp.
