This Week’s Notable Performances

While a record setting snow storm shortened the week of high school basketball, there was still enough time on the schedule for a variety of players to turn in some notable performances.  Here is a look at who shined: 

Rhode Island

Player of the Week – Michael Carter-Williams, St. Andrew’s – Carter-Williams takes the award for the second week in a row after being named the ESPN RISE Player of the Week in the east.  MCW led St. Andrew’s to a 49-46 come from behind victory over the nation’s 7th ranked high school team in DeMatha Catholic at the Cancer Research Classic in West Virginia.  He scored a game high 26 points along with 6 steals, 6 rebounds, and 3 assists.  Carter-Williams also scored 8 points in the final minute of the game with back to back three-point plays and a pair of free-throws.

Austin Van Bemmelen, N. Providence – 29pts vs. Tiverton
• Cory Muto, Warwick – 33pts in 70-61 win over Davies

Massachusetts

Player of the Week – Zach Hurynowicz, Burlington – The senior point guard almost single handedly led Burlington to a huge win over Woburn on Friday night as he went off for a school record 48 points including 20 in the fourth quarter.  Hurynowicz also knocked down eight three-pointers including a buzzer beater to give Burlington the 77-76 win.

Connecticut

Player of the Week - Kuran Iverson, Northwest Catholic – The sensational sophomore went to work earlier this week and made the game winning basket at the buzzer to defeat Southington 70-68.  Iverson scored 19 of his game high 23 points in the second half and also collected 14 rebounds, 5 blocks, 5 assists, and 4 steals.

Player of the Week - Sean McClung, Bishop Guertin – The senior guard stepped up to lead Bishop Guertin to a pair of wins this week, scoring 23 points against Alvirne including 11 in the fourth quarter and 26 points in a win over Manchester West.

Player of the Week – Nick Swim, BFA St. Albans – The senior just missed a triple double when he scored 19 points, picked 10 steals, and grabbed 8 rebounds in a 51-42 win over CVU.  In the process, Swim scored the 1000th point of his career.

Player of the Week – Sam Johnston, Greely – The senior swingman capped a big week with a 30 point performance on Thursday as he led Greely to a 63-47 win over York.  On Tuesday, Johnston scored 18 points in a 49-28 win over York including 11 in the second half along with 6 rebounds and 5 assists.
