Rising Senior Spotlight - Dominic Mello

St. George's Dominic Mello has been a well-known local prospect for quite some time.

He proved himself against top competition while running with Expressions over the years, just helped St. George's to their best season in program history, and has early offers from the likes of Bryant and New Hampshire along with interest from several other D1 programs.

While Mello can be dynamic with the ball in his hands, he's shown tremendous growth and maturation in terms of understanding of the game and ability to run a team. He's always been able to make plays, but he's now able to pick his spots and willing to sacrifice some of that individual offense for the good of the team.

It was clear to those who watched closely this year at St. George's that he was a D1 prospect, and had we played this spring or summer, it inevitably would have been clear to many others as well.

Personal Statement

I will outwork and compete with anybody. I am known as a scorer and shot creator but I have focused more on making the right play all of the time and making good decisions with the ball. I'm able to defend and also pressure the ball and make plays. This upcoming season I plan to have another successful season at St. George’s along with my teammates and then proceed to play college basketball at the highest level.

Recommendations

"Dom is a dynamic scorer capable of scoring in bunches! He's a division 1 talent. He's a high character kid and also boasts an impressive academic record. Undoubtedly, Dom would enhance any team and community at the next level."
- Dwayne Pina, Head Coach, St. George's School

Scout's Take

"Mello is a talented player with a ton of offensive game. What he may lack in sheer size he more than compensates for with quickness, creativity, and a versatile skill-set. There aren't many guys in New England who has a quicker crossover than he does and he can use it to get all the way to the rim or create space for his jumper. He shoots the ball well from three, changes pace (which is rare for someone as quick as he is), and has a finishing package. He's a true three-range scoring threat and has also become more of a true point guard within the last year."
