NMH Sends Another Ivy

Northfield Mount Hermon added to their monopoly of Ivy bound talent on Saturday when rising senior forward Tommy Carpenter made a verbal commitment to Dartmouth. 

The six-foot-seven forward will join former teammates Jvonte Brooks and John Golden, who are both incoming freshmen, when he arrives on the New Hampshire campus in September of 2012.  Another former NMH product, David Rufful, will graduate next spring after serving as the captain of this year’s team. 

Carpenter is about to enter his third season in the NEPSAC after transferring from his home in North Carolina.  He missed all of this summer’s live period after breaking his ankle but still held a handful of scholarship offers from some of the top programs in the Ivy and Patriot Leagues as well as the America East Conference. 

“I think it’s just another sign of the great job Dartmouth’s coaching staff has done since they’ve gotten there,” NMH coach John Carroll said of Carpenter’s commitment.  “They just got a kid who plays four different positions, has a super high basketball I.Q., and is without question going to make them a better program.” 

Carpenter’s versatility is without question his best attribute.  He arrived at NMH a crafty forward with a feel for the game beyond his years.  Since that time he’s developed his complimenting skills, specifically the consistency of his perimeter jumper, and even served as the team’s back-up point guard last year. 

The six-foot-seven forward is the second player to commit to Dartmouth in the 2012 class, joining guard Alex Mitola from New Jersey. 

Carpenter is the 16th player from Northfield Mount Hermon to commit to an Ivy League school in the last 5 years.  NMH will have 26 active players in division I college basketball next season.
