National Prep Showcase - Day 1 Recap

Coaches from over 60 Division 1 institutions were in attendance for the first day of National Prep Showcase games at Albertus Magnus College in New Haven, CT. These are the players and teams who impressed in the first day of action:
 
Lee Academy (ME) 70, Fork Union Military Academy (VA) 63

In the opening contest of the National Prep Showcase, Lee Academy was able to catch the victory over Fork Union, who despite 1-14 shooting from behind the arc was able to stick with Lee to the end. Drew Crudup scored 20 points and made his presence felt on the offensive end with four steals for Lee, while Brandon Neel was a force down low with 21 points and 13 rebounds.

Hargrave Military Academy (VA) 115, Notre Dame Prep (MA) 91

Xavier-bound guard Myles Davis had 6 three-pointers, all of which came in the first half, as did 22 of Davis’ 26 points overall. Hargrave broke it open early and started to blow away ND Prep towards the middle of the second half. Ambrose Mosley contributed with 22 points and four rebounds, Codi Miller-Mcintyre had a near triple-double 10 points, eight boards, eight assists and showed off his athleticism on a put-back dunk. Hargrave also got standout contributions from Ryan Taylor, who had 26 points and 11 rebounds, and Montrezl Harrell, who was unguardable the entire contest, he finished 27 points and seven rebounds.

Bridgton Academy (ME) 74, St. John’s Military Academy (WI) 71

Bridgton got the best of St. John’s down the stretch, winning a nail-biter in the third game of the day. St. John’s-bound senior Amir Garrett led the way for Bridgton with 17 points and nine rebounds. Bridgton went ahead 72-69 on a three-pointer by Jarryn Skeete with less than a minute to go. Aaron Ross (18 pounts, eight rebounds) countered with two free-throws at the other end. Malik Nichols then came back for Bridgton with lay-up off of a spin-move, sealing the game for his team. Jacoby Davis also had 18 point and eight rebounds for St. John’s.

St. Thomas More (CT) 83, Fishburne Military School (VA) 56

St.  Thomas More dominated this one from start to finish. Their 12 total turnovers displayed a well-executed offense. They had three double-figure scorers, and were able to finish off Fishburne by 27 behind three double figure scorers in AJ English(11 points), Barrington Stephens(12 points) , and Rodney Sanders (13 points). Karl Ziegler was the only player in double figures for Fishburne, he finished with 11 points and seven rebounds.

South Kent School (CT) 94, La Jolla Prep (CA) 74

Providence College signee Ricardo Ledo (37 points, five assists, four rebounds) was the star of the show and had by far the most dominant performance of the day on Friday. He had a few highlight-reel dunks, while knocking down five three-pointers in the first half (he had seven threes in all). La Jolla got standout performances from their 6’8 Cleveland State commit Darnell Harris and 6’6 USC commit Strahinja Gavrilovic. Harris showed off a feathery three-point touch by knocking down six three-pointers, he finished with 26 points in all to go along with eight rebounds. Gavrilovic had a nose for the ball the whole game and always seemed to be in the right place at the right time, he finished with 20 points and five rebounds.  South Kent also got impressive an impressive performance from Chris Ortiz, who had 15 points and six rebounds.

New Hope Academy (MD) 84, Winchendon School (MA) 62

New Hope got some great shots, shooting 54% from the floor and 47% from behind the arc as a team, putting away Winchendon behind outstanding performances from Francisco Lopez( 18 points, 4-4 3FG), Cavon Baker(18 points and five steals), and William Howard(19 points, 11 rebounds, 3-5 3FG). Former Charlestown High School star Akosa Maduegbunam led Winchendon with 13 points, to go along with six rebounds.
 
Northfield Mount Hermon (MA) 97, Massanutten Military Academy (VA) 93

The game of the night saw 60 three-pointers attempted between the two teams with Zac Grossenbacher and Ryan Oliver going blow for blow in and old fashioned shoot-out.  Ultimately Northfield was able to hold-on as they utilized pinpoint execution down the stretch.  Ethan ODay was phenominal inside for NMH, turning in a performance that was second only to Ledo's on the day.  He was bouncy and active around the rim, finishing with an assortment of dunks to shoot 14-19 from the floor while also coming up with 9 rebounds and 3 blocks.  Corban Collins led the way for Massanutten with 28 points and 8 assists.
