McFarland Makes Decision

Maine native Tyler McFarland ended his recruitment earlier this week with a verbal commitment to Bentley University.

Bentley has made a habit of landing early July commitments in recent years and has been particularly strong recruiting the state of Maine with pledges from Jacob Moore and Andrew Shaw in addition to transfer Sam Leclerc

McFarland had a storied career at Camden Hills High School, leading his squad to three straight appearances in the state finals and winning two championships.  His list of individual accolades is equally impressive having been named both Mr. Basketball is the state of Maine as well as the Gatorade Player of the Year.

The six-foot-six forward averaged 24.6 points and 12.1 rebounds per game this season in leading Camden Hills to an undefeated year.

McFarland has had similar success on the AAU circuit, standing out with Maine Mac this spring and summer.

“Obviously he’s a tremendous competitor,” Maine Mac coach Carl Parker said.  “I think it is a great decision for Tyler and believe he’ll be a dynamic player there.  Plus I know he’s really looking forward to playing for Coach Lawson.”

McFarland will spend next season at Cushing Academy as a post-graduate before heading to Bentley in September of 2012.
