Maine State Championships Decided

Class A – Bangor 58  Cheverus 49

Bangor dominated the fourth quarter, outscoring Cheverus 27-15, to claim a 58-49 win and their most recent Gold Ball since 2007.  Zach Blodgett scored the go-ahead basket with just over two minutes to play in the game with an offensive put-back coming off a free-throw.  Blodgett (12 points) was one of four Rams to score in double figures including Luke Hetterman with 16, Tristan Thomas with 13, and Pat Stewart.  Griffin Brady had 21 points to lead Cheverus while Louis Distasio had 12.

Class B – Camden Hills 68  Cape Elizabeth 59

Theo Bowe put on a show for Cape Elizabeth, scoring 36 points including 22 in the first half, but it wasn’t enough to stop a powerful Camden Hills squad.  Tyler McFarland scored 19 of his 24 points in the second half to lead the Windjammers to this come-from-behind victory.  Keegan Pieri was also crucial for Camden Hills, finishing with 21 points.  The senior tandem finishes their high school career having advanced to three straight state finals and claiming two of those championships.

Class C – Lee Academy 65  Dirigo 55

Lee Academy won their first state title by defeating a storied Dirigo program 65-55.  It was a family affair for the Pandas as head coach Randy Harris got 27 points from his son and star player A.J. Harris.  Bryan James scored 18 more points for Lee while Dirigo was led by Spencer Ross with 15.

Class D – Central Aroostook 40  Richmond 37

It came down to the very last possession but when a Richmond three-point didn’t go down, Central Aroostook came away with the Gold Ball.  Central Aroostook Caleb Kelly was the game’s high scorer with 14 points while Mike Christie led Richmond with 12.
