Locals Held Their Own at Reebok All-American Camp

Two New England products were named to the all-star game at the Reebok All-American Camp, which wrapped up Friday night in Philadelphia.

Future Worcester Academy forward Tyler Olander and Hotchkiss guard Derrick Wilson were both selected to participate in the all-star game at the Reebok All-American Camp.

The game, which featured the top 30 players in the 120 player field, also had a distinct New England flare on the sidelines with Winchendon’s Mike Byrnes roaming one sideline and South Kent’s Kelvin Jefferson the other.

Olander was earning rave reviews right off the bat this week and continued to be consistent throughout the camp.

Wilson also shined from start to finish and also led his team to the camp’s team championship.  While his physical strength and killer instinct have long been well known commodities, the addition of the three-point shot as an added weapon to his offensive arsenal stood out this week.

Olander and Wilson weren’t the only New England products to play well.  Hector Harold and Shabazz Napier, who both earned their invitations via the Reebok Headliner Camp in June, both played well offensively.  Napier scored the ball well, making shots as usual, while Harold did a little bit of everything, handling the ball, scoring, and rebounding.

The two local underclassmen, Khem Birch and Ricardo Ledo, also showed they were ready to compete at this high of a level.  Birch, who has enrolled at the Winchendon School, was playing extremely well on day one of the camp but unfortunately went down with an ankle injury that prevented him from returning.  Meanwhile, Ledo averaged 14 points per game this week showing his ability to score the ball.
