Ledo Will Repeat Sophomore Year at St. Andrew’s

Ricardo Ledo has emerged as one of the region’s most talented young players in recent months.

First came a tremendous sophomore season at Bishop Hendricken which led to him being named second team all-state by both the Providence Journal and the Rhode Island Coaches Association.

Ledo was never better than in the division I state final where he scored an incredible 25 first half points to lead Hendricken to their sixth straight state title.

It’s been more of the same this spring as he has been a consistent staple of the Expressions Elite team that has claimed titles at the Northeast Hoops Festival and the Providence Jam Fest in the 16-under division.

While Ledo has certainly raised his game to new levels as of late, what is even more exciting is just how good he could eventually become if he puts in the necessary amount of work.

It’s undeniable that he has all the tools with great size (6’3”) and length for the two-guard position, tremendous athleticism, and a tight handle.  He’s also a good passer of the basketball when he wants to be and is gradually becoming a better shooter from the perimeter.

Now it’s just a matter of putting those tools together on a consistent basis in order to fulfill his tremendous potential.

For the next three years he’ll by working to do that at St. Andrew’s School under head coach Mike Hart.

Hart has brought St. Andrew’s to unprecedented levels of success in his 15 years at the helm of the basketball program, including almost 300 wins, 6 NEPSAC championships, and over 40 players who have gone on to play at the division I level.

Notable St. Andrew’s alums include Tony Robertson (UConn), John Kale (Providence), Demetrius Nichols (Syracuse), and most recently Rakim Sanders (Boston College).

“I think Ricky has a chance to be in that category with those four guys,” Hart said.  “It’s all up to Ricky.  If he wants to do the work to get there, he could be that good.”
