Hoop Mountain Prep Classic - Friday Recap

There was a major buzz all day at the Marianapolis Prep gym as coaches from the ACC, Big East, SEC, A-10, Colonial Conference, America East, MAAC,  Northeast Conference, and Patriot League were in attendance to watch Friday’s games.

Mack Prep Academy (NC) 74  v Monte Clare Academy (PA) 62

Quevyn Winters and Jamar Goodwin from Mack impressed again as they combined for 45 points.  Deshon Portley energized Mack with 3 second half three pointers tallying 18 for the game. Davon Hayes 6’6” (Monte Clare), who is receiving interest form a number of high major schools, showed a complete arsenal of offensive weaponry with 24 points..

Montmorency  (Montreal, CN) 44  v CJEOTO Grey (NJ) 74

CJEOTO blitzed Montmorency from the beginning of this one. Trashon Burrell scored 18 including 4 thunderous highlight level dunks. Justin Daniels filled the stat sheet for CJEOTO with 12 points, 4 assists, 5 steals, and 2 blocks.

Manhattan Sports Academy 64 (NY) v Edward Monpetit (Montreal, CN) 48

Antoine Slaughter (Manhattan Sports Academy) the 5’3” “jitter bug” point guard stole the show as he controlled the game with 18 points, 8 assists, and 6 steals.  His backcourt mate, Malik Suba, tallied a game high 11 assists and he added 4 steals.

Lawrence Academy (MA)  54 CJEOTO Blue (NJ) 53

Lawrence Academy was down 33-15 at halftime and battled back to win 55-54 in a gutsy comeback..  Lawrence Academy’s Maryland tandem of Daquan Sampson (19 points, 6 rebounds, 4 blocks) and Jalen Myrie (15 points, 6 assists, 5 rebounds) put on a show. Myrie hit a big three pointer with 1:10 left in the second half to give Lawrence Academy their first lead of the game.

Worcester Academy (MA) 75 v South Kent (CT) 84

In this back and forth game, South Kent’s depth proved to be too much. Chris Thomas (South Kent) was able to score at will tallying 21 points for the game. Ricardo Ledo played the role of distributor for South Kent dishing out a team high 8 assists. The inside presence of  7-1 Isaac Freeman was imposing on both ends of the floor as he scored 12 points, grabbed 9 rebounds and blocked 5 shots. The future is bright for Worcester Academy as sophomore Matt Cimino showed why he is a high major prospect, the 6’9” step out 4-man hit 5 three pointers scoring 17 total for the game.  Junior Ausar Madison was a defensive pest with 6 steals (4 in the 2nd half).

Vermont Academy (VT) 65 v Putnam Science Academy (CT) 59

This game was a battle from start to finish, but ultimately Vermont had the athletes to outlast PSA. Dominic Woodson dominated the interior for Vermont with 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 blocks.  Donnele Munda showed a great shooting stroke, connecting on 3 three point field goals as well as series of pull up jumpers. Jamel Artis was the glue that held Vermont together scoring a timely 15 points and grabbing 8 boards.  Putnam Science was led by lightning quick Shaun Lawton (19 points, 5 assists, 3 steals), who left little doubt that he is a legitimate scholarship player today.

Superlatives of the Day

Fans of the day-Putnam Science Academy, bringing 82 International students, an enormous drum, and a diverse series of Euro Soccer style cheer mostly in Turkish!

Shot of the day-Shaun Lawton’s steal and ¾ court bank 3 pointer to beat the half time buzzer against Vermont Academy.

Dunk of the day-Rickey Ledo’s and 1 finish off an alley oop in the first half against Putnam Science.

Haircut of the day- Deshon Portley’s 1980s style retro flat top was a crowd favorite at the 11:30 game

Coaching garb of the day-Jesse Bopp, Vermont Academy wearing a wall street style pin strip suit with matching pin stripe shirt.
