ESPN Releases National Rankings

New England Recruiting Report | Wednesday, August 26th, 2015

ESPN published their updated national rankings in the rising senior class of 2016 on Wednesday and New England was well represented on the list.

Omari Spellman, who is joining St. Thomas More this season, remained the 16th ranked player in the country. The Villanova pledge went down with a summer ending injury on the first day of the July evaluation period but had already made a statement with his play at the Nike Skills Academy.

Wilbraham & Monson forward Wenyen Gabriel was the biggest stock-riser in the national class, jumping all the way up to #23 after his huge summer, making him the second overall ranked prospect in the region and tops among true New England natives.

Sacred Heart swingman Mustapha Heron moved up a couple of spots to sit at 24th in the country and remains the most likely local product to have a chance to crack this year's McDonald's All-American game as a true fourth year senior.

Another big stock-riser was Vermont Academy guard Bruce Brown, who jumped over 20 spots to be ranked as the 30th best player in the ESPN 100.

A pair of local big men, Putnam Science Academy's Mamadou Diarra and Vermont's Tyrique Jones checked in at 90 and 91, while a trio of incoming prep products - Myles Powell, Sedee Keita and Taurean Thompson were listed at 76, 80 and 89 respectively.
