Vermont Native Headed to Vassar

John Donnelly, who has been putting up big numbers all season long at Champlain Valley Union in Vermont, is headed to Vassar next year.  John, along with his younger brother Jake Donnelly, form a potent 1-2 punch that helps CVU to be one of the better teams in the state.  At Vassar, Donnelly has the versatility to contend for playing time right away.  He’s a physically strong wing player with good size and enough ball skills to handle against pressure, get into the lane occasionally, and make open shots from the perimeter.

Shorey Will Play at Union

Cal Shorey is headed to Union College next year where he will have a spot on their basketball team.  The 6’4” senior from Calais High School in Maine can play either forward position and is productive on both ends of the floor.  Offensively, he is a true mismatch problem who can score inside and out.  Defensively, he’s a rugged interior presence who can guard bigger players and an outstanding defensive rebounder.  Union is currently 9-5 on the season. 

Anderson to NESCAC

Middlesex’s Scott Anderson has finally made his pick and he’s headed to Tufts.  The 6’5” forward has been a primary target for many teams in the conference for quite a long time, but ultimately he decided to become a Jumbo.  Anderson has had a brilliant high school career and figures to have similar success on the next level.  He combines tremendous upper body strength, a hard working approach to the game, and a very high basketball I.Q. to help his team in a variety of ways.  Not only is he someone who can score and rebound the ball in high volume under the basket, but he’s also developed into a dangerous weapon at the high post thanks to his ability to step away and score in addition to his undervalued passing ability. 

Trinity Gets a Good One

Tufts isn’t the only NESCAC school to add a potential impact player next season.  First year Trinity College head coach Sean Tabb has gone north to Andover, Massachusetts and earned a commitment from Kevin Polanco.  That was no easy task considering the talented swingman had an offer to play for Army at the division I level.  Polanco is a very athletic wing player who runs the floor, gets to the rim, and finishes hard.  He’s a serviceable shooter and someone who simply has the drive to play to the best of his ability every time he takes to the court.  He’s also got all the skills and athleticism to be a major defensive presence as well.  He will no doubt be an impact player for the Bantams next year.
