Commitment Catch-Up

Wesleyan Improving in a Hurry

Wesleyan head coach Joe Reilly has put together his first recruiting class for the Cardinals…and it is a tremendous one.  Nobles’ Derick Beresford was the first to pledge after being admitted early decision.  Beresford’s presence alone would have been a huge addition, but when you combine him with Sasha Brown, a name familiar to New England fans because of his time at Trinity Pawling, you have a backcourt that could potentially be the league’s best before the end of their career.  Ameer Brown, an athletic 6’3” swingman from Blair Academy in New Jersey will join the class at the wing as will Greg St. Jean from Phillips Exeter Academy.  St. Jean is a tremendously intelligent and crafty, and can play several different positions on the floor thanks to his ability to handle and pass the ball.  The California native spent the better part of his season on the injured list and had he not there’s a good chance he would have ended up in the Ivy League.  All in all…look out for the Cardinals next year as Reilly’s club will be able to get up and down the floor with anyone.

Tilton Supporting Cast Making Decisions

Chris Barsanti, a valuable role player off the Tilton bench, is headed to Dickinson College next year to play basketball.  Barsanti is a catch and shoot specialist who was a valuable role player off the bench for Tilton as they captured both the NEPSAC and National Prep Championships.  A number of Tilton’s other reserves are headed to college to play football next year.  Matt Gaither and Eric Hollingsworth will both head to the football field at Bates while Chris Bolte will do the same at Stonehill.

Maine Star Headed to Colby

Gordon Fischer who recently led his Camden Hills High School team to the Maine Class B state championship, is staying close to home next year and attending Colby College.  Fischer was one of the top seniors in the Pine Tree state this year, and he proved it in the finals when he scored a game high 22 points.  Standing 6’6” with guard like skills, Fischer has the versatility to make an immediate impact upon joining the White Mules line-up next season.

Wilbraham Sniper Headed to Connecticut College

Steven Jones will play in the NEPSAC next year as he is headed to Connecticut College to play for head coach Tom Satran.  Jones averaged 11 points and 6 rebounds on a much improved Wilbraham & Monson team that finished 11-9.  Jones is best known for his ability to stretch the defense with his lethal outside shooting.  That is no doubt a weapon that will be put to good use next year in the Camels’ Princeton style offense.

New Hampshire Star Will Stay Close to Home

Justin Hojlo, who was not only one of the top point guards but also one of the top players period in the state of New Hampshire this season, will be staying close to home for the next four years as he is headed to Plymouth State in the Little East Conference.  At Pelham High School Hojlo was often asked to take on most of the scoring responsibilities, and while he should no doubt be able to put points on the board at the next level as well, he also has the quickness and floor vision to develop into a pure point guard for the Panthers.

Brunswick Guard Heads to Stevens

Brunswick guard Jonathan Drosos is on his way to Stevens Institute of Technology next season where he will not only study at a top notch academic school, but also compete as part of the basketball team.  Drosos began to attract the attention of college coaches last summer when he played well at Hoop Mountain’s Academic Elite Camp.
