Carroll heading to Brewster Academy for Post-Graduate Year

It was almost a year ago when Austin Carroll first began to strongly consider the idea of doing a post-graduate season.

He had been limited by a nagging ankle injury for most of the spring and was still feeling some lingering effects heading into the summer live period.  With limited mobility and just enough rust, he wasn’t able to seize the opportunity to show college coaches his best game during the two live periods.

That was the point when he made the decision to give himself another year, unless something came along that was too good to pass up.

By the time his senior year at Worcester Academy began, the ankle was no longer an issue, and Carroll showed what he was capable of doing, having multiple games with 25+ points and 7+ three-pointers.

Finally healthy and able to play his game, Carroll attracted the attention of some big time college programs.

In fact, it was only two months ago that Georgetown head coach John Thompson III and Davidson head coach Bob McKillop both traveled to Worcester Academy to watch Carroll workout

While Thompson was first attracted by Carroll’s shot making prowess from the perimeter, his tremendous passing ability, high basketball I.Q., and toughness also proved intriguing to the Hoyas.

Ultimately, Georgetown came very close, but didn’t end up pulling the trigger.

Davidson continues to actively recruit Carroll for 2010.

Since word of Carroll’s plan to do another year began to spread, Rutgers became the next Big East school to express interest, while Notre Dame has also recently inquired.  Other schools that have expressed interest include Washington State, Fordham, Harvard, Siena, Western Michigan, and William & Mary.

This summer Carroll will continue to run with the New England Playaz as they make their annual trip around the country with stops scheduled for Cincinnati, New England, West Virgnia, Las Vegas, and Los Angeles.
