All-Academic Camp - Day 2 PM Recap

As the action at Brandeis continued through Day 2, more players proved their worth in front of more than 100 college coaches of the highest academic schools in the country.  The following players stood out on Wednesday afternoon and night:

Tyler Aronson (Rivers School, 2018)- With Shaughnessy gaining most of the public's attention this spring & summer, Aronson's strong grassroots season can be overshadowed at times.  He has developed into a player that is a threat to go off anytime he steps on the court.  He hits big 3-pointers, uses a crafty hesitation move to get in the lane, and gives opponents fits on defense with his quick feet.  Aronson had a steady following of coaches this week, and that should continue through the summer.

Cameron Shockley (Milton Academy, 2018)- An athletic lefty wing, Shockley made shots at a high rate on Wednesday.  He is starting to understand what it means to play hard on every play, and his improvement has followed suit.  if he keeps playing hard & improving his understanding of the game, Shockley has a chance to play at a high level.

Marko Mitrovic (Phillips Exeter, 2018)- Mitrovic went off in the afternoon set of games.  He was on fire from beyond the arc, and continued that hot shooting into the evening set.  He then used his threat to shoot to make the defense bite & set up his teammates for open shots.

Andrew Richards (Kent School, 2018)- A consummate pass-first point guard, Richards rarely turned the ball over and always found his teammates for open shots.  He does a very good job of probing the defense with his drives to free his teammates for open looks.

Justin Connolly (Brooks School, 2018)- Already holding offers from Division II programs, Connolly's game continues to expand.  His high rebounding rate & smart interior defense continue to impress, but his passing and playmaking ability for his teammates is something that stood out on Wednesday night here at Brandeis.

Alex Washington (Mountain Brook HS, 2019)- Coming from Alabama, Washington is one of the best pound-for-pound athletes in the field.  At 6'2, he showed the ability to guard four positions on the court due to his quick feet, strong upper body & anticipation skills.  

Samvit Ram (Adali Stevenson HS, 2018)- Ram is a solid all-around offensive player.  Armed with a good feel for the game, he is a long & smooth 6'2 guard with a deadly pull-up jumper.  He does not make many mistakes on the court and is well-suited to play a team-first style of basketball with his patience on offense.

Thomas Shaughnessy (Needham HS, 2018)- The lefty point guard brought energy & passion to his team, and, in usual Shaughnessy-esque fashion, willed his team to victory.  His talk is contagious on the court, and is the ultimate teammate & leader.

Neil Iken (Harvard-Westlake, 2018)- The 6'0 point guard has the patience & discipline in deciding when to attack to make the defense work.  Once he uses a ball screen, he does a good job of getting his defender on his back and keeping him off until an option opens up.

Brandon Kolek (St. Andrew's, 2018)- The incoming St. Andrew's post-graduate guard can light it up from beyond the 3-point arc.  This day was no different, as he hit three big 3-pointers late in his team's game on Wednesday night.  That threat will require defenses to know where he is at all times.

Josh Schibi (Lewis Mills HS, 2018)- The Connecticut native had a nice rip-through for a baseline dunk, showing the explosiveness and ability to accelerate to the basket that college coaches look for, especially in a 6'5 wing like Schibi.

Alec Gibbs (Reading HS, 2018)- Gibbs is a fundamentally sound wing who always makes the right play.  He plays off of two feet every time he gets into the paint.  The lefty also showed the ability to knock down shots from beyond the 3-point arc.

Danny Gaines (Colts Neck HS, 2018)- Making the trip north from New Jersey, Gaines is a shifty guard who changes speeds well and plays whatever angle is given to him in order for him to get to the basket.  He runs hard in transition to get easy layups, as well.

Jack Atkins (Hopkins School, 2018)- The 6'6 big is efficient on the defensive boards and crashes the offensive glass hard.  He also displayed a confident jump hook shot over his left shoulder that was very difficult for opposing defenses to stop.
