All-Academic Camp - Day 1 Recap

As players start to settle in to All Academic Camp at Brandeis University in Waltham, MA on Tuesday afternoon, the week looks very promising for all college coaches who have made their respective trips from all across the country.  An impressive slate of student-athletes set the stage for what should be an exciting week of action.
The following players stood out on the opening day of action here at the #AAC:

Toni Rocak (Phillips Exeter, 2018)- The post-graduate from Switzerland finished strong inside through contact all day long.  His short-range touch really stood out, as he proved to be automatic within ten feet no matter who was guarding him.  Rocak also runs the floor very well for a big, which lead to a lot of easy scoring opportunities.

Zack Mittelstadt (Gould Academy, 2018)- Mittelstadt turned in one of the best performances of the day with his ability to score in transition.  He is a player who can grab a defensive rebound and quickly turn the possession into a fast break with his speed.

Myles Davis (Roxbury Latin, 2019)- While in control of the game throughout, Davis is not afraid to score when an opportunity presents itself.  His pull-up game is very effective, and he uses his threat to shoot to hesitate & go by his defender.

Joe Fontella (Lawrence Academy, 2018)- The strong post player could not be stopped when he caught the ball within eight feet of the basket.  His post moves are mature for a player his age, and he is able to feel out his defender to sense where the easiest move is for him is to make.

Justin Vine (King Philip HS, 2018)- The lefty guard made shots in bunches on Tuesday afternoon & evening.  His ability to spread the defense with his threat to shoot opened up many driving lanes for his teammates.

Zachary Dagan (Trinity HS, 2018)- The New Hampshire native stands at 5'9, but impacted the game unlike many others on Tuesday.  His quick first step off a hesitation dribble must keep defenses honest, but his ability to shoot off the dribble from 3-point range forces defenses to adjust to what he does.

Dominic Black (Arlington HS, 2018)- Black has a reputation for being a very solid offensive player, but his defense & hustle stood out.  He had several key blocks in transition for his team, and was able to slide his feet to consistently stay in front of his man on defense.  His help defense also stood out, as he's able to decipher several steps ahead of the offense.

Teddy Brown (Green Farms Academy, 2019)- The 6'7 post finished strong inside & has great hands in the post.  A young big that has the traits of Brown should begin to see legitimate college interest in the near future.

Elliot Tirbaso (St. Edward HS, 2018)- Making the long trek from Ohio, Tirbaso can elevate to score at the rim over players bigger, taller & longer than him.  More of a driver, Tirbaso absorbs contact on the way to the hoop.

Max Samberg (Rye HS, 2018)- The New York product is a 6'3 guard who showed he is more than capable of posting up smaller defenders.  His ability to hit a turnaround fade away jumper impressed many college coaches through the first day.

Jack O'Neil (Rutgers Prep, 2019)- Coming from New Jersey, O'Neil is a solid point guard who has been well-coached & know to play.  His feel for the game hints that it can translate to the next level.
